Education & Training Programmes

The Education and Training Programmes of The Wavertree Charitable Trust are conducted at The National Stud in Newmarket. The National Stud has been training students for the Thoroughbred breeding industry for over a quarter of a century, with nearly 750 students completing training courses.

This high class tailored training is unique in the United Kingdom and is provided free of charge to UK students or their employers within the Thoroughbred breeding industry.

Courses are designed to meet the demands of the modern day Thoroughbred racehorse breeder in the UK and internationally. We seek to combine technical tuition with hands-on practical training, a learning process which is not available anywhere else within the United Kingdom.

Many former students are actively involved in stud management, whilst others have successfully made their names as trainers, bloodstock agents, auctioneers and journalists.

The Stud recently underwent an educational inspection by the Adult Learning Inspectorate. This involved detailed scrutiny of training procedures and processes and this resulted in a Grade 1 (Outstanding) award.

Our students are the very future of the Thoroughbred breeding industry. They are pivotal to meeting the demands of the modern day Thoroughbred racehorse breeder.
