I grew up riding and competing at pony club level in Zimbabwe and although my sister bred Thoroughbreds I was not as interested in breeding as I am now. I chose the racing industry because of the passion of the horses and the dream, as my dream is to breed a Derby winner.
I did ‘A’ levels in Zimbabwe and then worked as a secretary whilst saving to study in England, where I undertook a degree at Hartpury College, Gloucestershire graduating in BA (Hons) Equine Business Management. During the course I worked part-time at Tweenhills Stud and Mote Farm Stud. After I graduated I worked as the Racing Secretary, PA & Accounts Assistant at Newsells Stud, however I missed the hands on work with the horses so I applied for the Diploma at The National Stud as I wanted more practical experience and I wanted to specialise in breeding.
Throughout the Diploma I gained lots of practical and handling experience and learnt how to do things correctly and maintain high standards. I also found the lectures very informative as they were given by people working in the industry. I also made lots of great friends from all over the world.
After leaving the course I worked at Larkwood Stud in Newmarket doing yearling prep and sales which I really enjoyed. I have now been offered, and accepted, a position at Coolmore Stud in the USA. Ultimately I would like to become a Stud Manager and Bloodstock Advisor.
